Hotel Ambassade, great value for money
A good experience, not the best but certainly value for money. I would come here again for sure, it was a 2 star hotel and accordingly it certainly felt like one but the location was absolutely superb. 10 mins walk away from La Tour Eiffel and an equal amount the other direction from Champs Elysees. Some of the staff left quite a bad impression, one in particular didn't even greet me as I returned to the hotel one evening - even though I smiled and said "Bonjour!" but on the other hand I found other staff very helpful, one of them dealing very well with a situation where we had a noise complaint at half 11 at night. For this inconsistency in customer service I have given the hotel a "3".
The room was of adequate size but I did find the shower a bit of a squeeze, if you're of the chubbier variety or very tall you might find this a big problem.
My only other grievances were that the walls were a bit thin to the point where you could hear people talking (amongst other things....) and the duvet cover provided looked a little on the cheap side.
We didn't eat in the hotel as we were visiting Paris on a tight budget, luckily around a bout the hotel are plenty of local conviences including a supermarket, takeaways and newsagents.
If you're thinking of spending as little money as possible but want a hotel close to all the sights then this is for you. Reviewed by David M, who stayed in February 2011
Autumn Break
Although our room was small, the Ambassade is good value for money in this quiet part of Paris. There is a buffet breakfast available, but it's rather pricey and there are cheaper alternatives in the area. There are bars and restaurants nearby where we ate in the evenings and it's handy for the metro stops at Victor Hugo and Boissiere if you want to go further afield or you could walk up to Etoile or down towards the river easily enough. You can leave your luggage in the basement - useful if, like us, you're not leaving Paris until late afternoon. Reviewed by Paul H, who stayed in November 2010
