Hotel near Gare du Nord
As advertised.Minutes walk from station.Very quaint room.Fifth floor quiet.Skip the breakfast in house and try lots of local places.Very good bakery on main corner to the north of hotel, about 5 minutes in the direction of station.Lots of places to eat on street in front of train station.Easy access to Metro station. One note of caution.Check out local news on metro or bus strikes.Metro line have shut down randomly, therefore putting lots of strain on taxi access.Very difficult to find after one after midnight.Who wants to walk back from the left bank?Taxi driver suggests to come in April, May,or August to avoid crowds.Visit Fauchon for a crazy food experience.Cheers. cosy
We stayed here because of the proximity of the Gare du Nord as it was easy to get to the station when arriving and leaving. It's virtually only a 3 minute walk from the station. Less important that it wasn't so close to the main attractions that Paris is known for as the Metro is practically outside the door and you can jump on and off the train very easily to get to the Louvre, etc. We didn't eat in the Hotel so I cannot comment on the food but the room was compact as is with the majority of hotels in Paris. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels were available. Spotless. Nice little balcony to watch the world go by. Not too noisy at night either. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and we will return again soon as we only had 2 full days to try to cram everything we wanted to do into that short time. Thanks again for a lovely stay. The staff were polite and said hello in the mornings. They also gave us a handy map to use which also had the Metro on it too. One thing I feel I should mention is when we used the Gare du L'est Metro line, a man who we thought was 'helpful' actually stole about 25 Euro from us by saying he had bought us a full 2 day pass each on the automated machine because you cannot buy it from a desk or use notes, just small change or credit card which the thief quickly shoved his credit card in and did the whole thing so fast we were caught unawares, it being our first day. He had only bought a 2 use ticket which instead of being 3,40 it was 30,40. We felt foolish as we both pride ourselves with some common sense. I hope you don't get caught the way we did. It didn't sour our trip too much as the rest of the time people were lovely, friendly and helpful. Reviewed by j crawford, who stayed in April 2011
Good location for Eurostar
Minutes from Gare du Nord - in fact from exit 1 of the metro you can see the hotel from coming up the steps. We headed straight there to see if we could leave our bags at 08.30 and they let us straight into our room. The room was very clean, reasonable size and perfectly functional, although we paid for a superior room, I am glad we did as it equates to a standard English hotel room. Staff were friendly; we didn't have breakfast (loads of cafes and restaurants nearby) but it was 14 euro pp in the hotel. They also offered room service food that seemed reasonable though we didn't try it.
Good location for metro links to touristy stuff - bit of changing lines on metro but no problem.
Will mention that on Friday eve about 6pm we were bit alarmed by the numbers of young men hanging about nearby but they had all gone by 8pm and were no trouble.
There's an interesting bar just up the road (Rue de deux gares) which looks dodgy but was good value and friendly. Reviewed by Adrian C, who stayed in March 2011
