Slightly disappointing... But for one of the cheaper hotels in central Paris, cant complain
the best bit about the hotel was the location, it is in the very lively Bastille area which has a lot of nice restaurants and its network system is brilliant with atleast 4 different metro lines out of the area and to the rest of Paris and several buses. The hotel itself was a bit of a let down, it doesn't look anything like it does in the pictures, we had to climb 75 steps of stairs to get to our room, bare in it is the highest room in the hotel, it was quite annoying. We didnt get the room we wanted we got an eyesore of a view which was also disappointing, but again it was valentines so the rest of the hotel may have been booked, so you may get the room you want if booked at another time. For what it is its not all bad, i wouldnt suggest it for longer visits, the showers are incredibly tight and the bathroom as a whole is one foot in diameter each way, resembles cupboard... the staff are friendly and you can come back at any time in the night without any problems Reviewed by Ben H, who stayed in February 2012
Good value for basics
New furniture & linen like it had been laundered in a nunnery & general room clenliness v.good, but ensuite odor did permeate the room & as in an earlier review, scum had not been cleaned from the base of the shower. I would be happy to take my wife here, but my daughters would be "grosed out" Reviewed by LEW M, who stayed in November 2011
Appalling hotel - do not stay here.
The hotel is generally very run down and clearly no money is spent on essential maintenance. Some of the staff were very unhelpful despite our fluent French. The bedroom was tiny, very worn and dirty. The bathroom was a health hazard, the toilet seat was in a disgusting state and there was neither a shelf for toiletries nor a toilet roll holder. It was not so much basic as primitive and I do not expect to find a hotel in this dreadful condition in a European capital city. I recommend that your clients stay elsewhere. Awful
Not good, dirty bathroom and shower. Breakfast was a joke ,a coffee and a old croissant, look for a better hotel very expensive for what I received. Reviewed by PAUL D, who stayed in October 2011

If you don't mind basic but clean stay here
Despite other reviews the hotel really is ok. The room was quite small, but the bed was clean and comfortable. Desk staff were very friendly. The location of the hotel is amazing!! really good value all considering. Reviewed by H Carre, who stayed in July 2011
baja traveler
This hotel is only for someone who could adapt to adversity. I would probably rate it as one star but the location was terrific. Bastille. Tiny, tiny room. No elevator. At first we were on the 5th floor (which had a nice balcony) but after the first night we were put on the first floor. Good continental breakfast. Maid stingy with toilet paper. Staff very helpful, enabling us to print out an important document on their system. Good wifi connection. Reviewed by Everett N, who stayed in July 2011
Poor cleanliness
The room was badly clean, with hairs and dirt still on the floor; the toilet seat was dirty and in dire need of replacement; limescale in the bathroom; various broken equipment and very strong smell of cigarette smoke. Reviewed by Arnaud S, who stayed in June 2011
My Stay at the Hotel Central Bastille
This hotel is not worthy of a 2* rating to be honest i would not give the Bastille 1*. The hotel is trapped in a time warp and needs a serious update the year is 2011 the hotel is 1970's. Reviewed by Eamon Lyons, who stayed in June 2011
Worn but good location
Older hotel with very small rooms, but friendly staff and good location Reviewed by A Jensen, who stayed in June 2011
Not next time
Grubby little room, extremely cramped, poorly decorated and in need of major refurb.
Furniture in room poor quality and shoddy- bed broke on second day and I had to wait over two hours before it was repaired (with the bed out of order the only place to sit was a cheap, nasty, uncomfortable stool. Couldn't open wardrobe door fully as room was so small. Breakfast was basic- one croissant, two slices of baguette, jam coffee and juice, except when one male staff member was on then you got one less slice of bread and had to ask for juice.
