This hotel was absolutely fine for a weekend break in Paris. It's right by the "Arts & Metier" metro station. There's a late night Carrefour across the road and a decent brasserie opposite the metro. The room wasn't huge but not smaller than you'd expect for a medium price city hotel (and bigger than many in London). The bathroom was fully equipped but again small (bijou perhaps?). The very small lift is functional (but starts up a short flight of stairs which could be a problem for some people with luggage). However the staff were hospitable and helpful booking restaurants, taxis, etc and giving advice. The breakfast on the mezzanine was excellent (they make their own croissants) if a little pricey. Good location, loved my room.
I stayed at Ecole centrale for 5 nights in August 2010. The only problem I had was finding the place. Locals didn't know Bailly st. which is a very tiny street! I arrived from the airport with RER train and then Metro & it was great (Thanks to the hotel's explanation) but i didn't realize that it was just several steps from "Art de metier" so, if you are a 1st timer in Paris and don't know french, the hotel is very close to the Metro & if you look up from the station, you will see Rue Bailly.
The neighborhood was quiet. The room was small but not as small as I expected from reviews. I wished I had more time to be in the room. It had nice colors of earth and very clean.
Was pleased to find that they have a refrigerator in the room, that the air condition really works & that there is a safe deposite box in the room. I didn't eat breakfast because I am not hungry in the morning & there are plenty of good places to do so.
For me the price was high, but if you are 2 people it gets cheapper and I loved the room so the price was o.k.
The location was close to center with in walking distance & paris is easy by Metro. So enjoy your trip! Reviewed by Ruth H, who stayed in August 2010
