Paris City Centre - Value for monay
A basic Hotel Standard but excellent value for a city centre stay. Reception very helpful no problem leaving cases during sightseeing on the day we left. All round hotel staff very helpful with good english spoken. Highly recommended Reviewed by Alan Wood, who stayed in April 2012
Hotel Le Faubourg - Extremely Disappointing
The Hotel was very basic and shabby. The photos of the hotel must have been taken some time ago.
We had booked a quad room as we were travelling with two children and we preferred to be together in one room. When we arrived at 10 p.m. we were given keys for a single room and triple bed room and told that the quad room would not be available until the next day. When we pointed out that we had specifically booked the Hotel because a quad room was available the man shrugged and indicated that we could take it or leave it. The next day we were told that the quad room was occupied and would not be available at all. I think that this was extremely dishonest. Had we been told before we left home that the quad room was not available we could have attempted to find another hotel. On the plus side the sheets and towels were clean (if a bit grey) and there was plenty of hot water. Reviewed by Alison O, who stayed in December 2011
Its cheap for Paris and you get what you pay for.
I would stay here in the winter because at least then you can open the window and let some air into the box room. That is if you can sleep through the traffic noise. Also the room I stayed in was tiny. Barely enough space to navigate around the bed. Friendly staff though and 5 mins to Metro. Plenty of good restaurants nearby too. clean and basic
the room was very basic with few comforts but it was clean and simple, the bathroom ws also very clean and functional. overall the hotel is very basic but great value for money for a short stay and a good location. I would stay again. Reviewed by DAVID K, who stayed in January 2011
Excellent value for money, good location for metro. Clean, quiet, warm, comfortable
The hotel was in an excellent location for the metro - a 5-10 min walk to 3 different lines.. and very handy for the stroll to the Gare du nord train station, to get to the CDG airport.
The room was clean, quiet, towels and bed sheets changed each day, no shortage of hot water. The bed was very comfortable. Extra pillows given when requested on the first night even though we arrived fairly late. It was a cold, cold weekend in Paris, but the room was very cosy with a controllable radiator.
Overall, extremely satisfied with the room, given that we paid only about £60 per night, which is extremely inexpensive for paris.
If you want good quality budget accomodation in a convenient location to use as a base for exploring Paris, this is a great choice and I would definitely stay here again.
Also - I would recommend the Marmite restaurant on the same street about 50 metres north. Reviewed by Alex Boyle, who stayed in January 2011
Ok for Paris
The hotel was close to many of the sights and not too far from a metro station. It did have a full sized bathroom which is hard to find in a Paris hotel. The room was not as clean as it could have been. The bedspread and floor were stained and a bit dirty. The bed was a bit hard for my liking but most beds in Europe are hard. I would not recommend this hotel or stay there again. Reviewed by Erin H, who stayed in September 2010
Overall Positive Review
For those arriving via the RER B, this hotel is around a 15 minute walk from station Gare du Nord with a couple of little shops either side where you can purchase water and snacks for your day. At the end of the road there is a McDonalds to get you settled if you arrive late at night and are not used to the area with a Starbucks a little further down for a morning coffee.
The hotel itself is larger than first imagined with around 4 receptionists on rotation who speak quite good english and are knowledgeable about travel in the area. The only reason this aspect was marked down on the customer service rating was that they are often not sat at the desk and you may have to wait a couple of minutes here and there for them to return for you to hand in or pick up your door key when you leave the building for fire safety reasons. On arrival they may also ask you if you require breakfast charged at £10 per person per morning, we opted to try this on the first day however we're a little disappointed after being told it was a buffet. On offer were a single croissant and a bread roll with the option for unlimited cream cheese, ham and pepperoni as well as cornflakes (?). you could also have unlimited hot drinks and orange juice. Whereas i probably ate my moneys worth, my partner found it a little bland and probably did not, but it is up to you what you like to eat. On other days we opted to have breakfast at StarBucks where for half the price we had 2 hot drinks, freshly squeezed orange juice, pancakes and muffins.
The hotel seemed quite clean even though the rooms were small, however the quality of the rooms could have been upgraded slightly to offer a kettle and coffee sachets which would have been appreciated especially on night time arrivals. In our room the only problems we could see were a bottom sheet for the bed which wasn't especially clean and the toilet seat which seemed a little dated and was in need of replacing. This did not however detract from the low price paid for a hotel in its location and overall we were very happy with the service we received.
As for the location of the hotel, if one is not using the Metro then this hotel is around an hour away from the main attractions, possibly a little less for the Louvre, but either way prepare for quite a bit of walking. On the night that we went to the Eiffel Tower we chose to get a taxi back after walking back up to the Seine, this cost us around 8 euros back to the hotel even though we felt the taxi driver could have got us back a little faster but if i were a taxi driver i would always try to make a little extra from the tourists. The walks down to the attraction were always enjoyable however and there are always a lot of cafes to sit in and have a drink.
Final notes include if you are going to use the RER down to Paris, have some change on you for the ticket machines as they don't take notes. Other reviews also note that there are a lot of prostitutes around the area but we saw none and always felt safe walking around. Reviewed by Dean Fido, who stayed in September 2010
Really bad hotel . the worst I have stayed in.
Really old building , very small dirty rooms and the food was discusting . I will never stay there again and recomend you take this hotel off your booking list Reviewed by J Mitchell, who stayed in July 2010
don't book ahead
we arrived and were told that our booking for 3 was actually 50 euros extra since we had a child over 8 years old plus 20 euros in tax. Keep in mind we booked for three, Mom, Dad and son. Then we asked to cancel the second day reservation since we were being charged more than was listed on our booking receipt and he said it was a 72 hour cancellation policy and he has to charge our card whether we stay or not.
Our room was located above a 24 hour mini market with music blaring all night and mopeds coming and going all night to get food nand drink from the market. At 7:30 every morning the jack hammer started across the street. Don't stay here, it is NOT OK. After two dreadful night I found a place called Hotel Residednce Romance Malherbes on rue de cardinet for a 100 euros a night flat, no taxand above average friendly staff, exactly what we wanted also in a beautiful upscale local part of town near the arc de triumphe and chanceelysse.
Don't stay near the gare de nord, you can find great prices and location in the 17th district, the upscale area. Reviewed by john v, who stayed in July 2010
The service is good. The hotel is nearby the East and North Realway station. But because it is just beside the road and the road is on construction, it is really noisy during day and night. Reviewed by G Wulan, who stayed in July 2010
Is every 2-star hotel in Paris like this?
It was my first time traveling to Paris and France, which I don't know the standard of the hotels in the country. However, over my stay the weather was too hot and the room did not provide air-conditioning, in which I realised in the conditions of the room I have read, that was a bit of nightmare as I almost could not sleep.
The area around the hotel was a little bit scary, if I'm honest. I got broken in the room by someone or some people to steal our stuff in the baggages, but the LCD in the room still fine. However, that was my fault that did not lock the window properly. Therefore, me and my friend moved to stay at another room that our friends staying, what's more is, the window in that room could not be locked as I tried so many times. If it was designed to be user-friendly, it should have been able to be locked.
Yet, comparing to other hotels elsewhere like in Italy, they were cheaper and nicer, as they provided air-conditioning, and breakfast.
For me, it was not a good experience and I will rather pay higher for a better hotel. Reviewed by Pattama R, who stayed in June 2010
Hotel review
Our initial impression was not very good and we thought the room small and da\rk when we entered but it served us well and we would be happy to return. Ideal for a single person or couple on a short stay as convenient for Gare du Nord Reviewed by C Coghlan, who stayed in May 2010
