Lovely place, gorgeous room, the staff were all helpful and friendly with things like directions or if you needed bottle openers, irons etc. We were on the top floor, the lift is a squeeze but that was fine for me.. The location is ideal, bang in the centre! This place is just one of the reasons my trip to Paris was so perfect. Reviewed by k bates, who stayed in January 2011
Beautiful Hotel, Excellent Location
Due to weather disruptions we arrived in the early hours of the morning and yet still received a warm, friendly welcome. Everything about our stay was first class Reviewed by R Beattie, who stayed in December 2010
Average at best
We had apparently booked a "Superior Double Room". Let me tell you, if you're in room 101 this is not most people's definition of "Superior". The room is tiny for a start, once the two single beds and a desk and frige were in, there was just a tiny path to walk from the bed to the bathroom although you might bump your legs on the beds as you walk by. Second, there is no view, just a window into a lighwell facing brick walls on all sides. On the advertising for the hotel there are pictures of airy street facing rooms - it's not made clear at all that superior might also mean tiny and dark.
On the plus side there is air conditioning, TV, minibar and tea making facilities, although when I asked for extra sugar one night there were scowls from reception (2 sugars and 2 teabags provided, so one tea per person, per day with one sugar.. woe betide you if you fancy more than one cuppa, or have a sweet tooth!). Plus the hotel is relatively well located, close to Louvre and Opera as well as a couple of metro stations.
However, the staff could have made all the difference, but made various pretenses at "helping" while not actually doing a lot. This was particularly highlighted when I left the hotel on the day of a famous french general strike. The day before leaving, I asked for information about aiport transfers - I was then advised that all transport options were going to be busy because of the strike, errr what strike?? Was there a reason this couldn't have been mentioned at check-in after all they knew our check-out date?
I asked the reception for advice on public transport. At the start it was barely more than, meh, there is none - no public transport at all. Later, I finally got some information, 3 out of 4 trains would be running and proceeded to give me a full rundown on what trains to get to and from where. That would have been great if it had been true, in fact, there were no trains running whatsoever and 3 out of 4 *buses* were operating, not trains (!) as I managed to clarify with the transport staff, even one that spoke no english - dramatically different - and an unlikely mistake by the receptionist given the french for bus is 'bus'.
I asked reception to book me a taxi to the airport given there was minimal public transport- their response, no we can't book taxi's at that time of day - 8am, too busy - a time you think you'd need to make a booking.... so, I asked them to book me a hotel/airport transfer - they apparently tried and were fully booked . They made it abundantly clear that I was being incredibly inconvenient by saying I actually had to go to the aiport to get a flight as if somehow I had a choice - their whole attitude was one big "whatever". In the end, I did get on an airport transfer that had come to the hotel for other guests and they had 4 extra spaces unfilled.
Overall, I didn't leave with a very good feeling from this hotel - the "this is just too much effort" attitude wears thin pretty quick. But if you're willing to stay in a pokey but clean room with rude and unhelpful staff then this is a good a place as any. Reviewed by A Funnell, who stayed in September 2010
Good base, good location
Good hotel base to see the sights of Paris. Small but very clean and perfectly adequate for a couple of nights stay in Paris. Hotel staff very friendly. Worth the stay, just to see the smallest lift ever! I'd definitely stay there again if I was in Paris. Reviewed by C Cookson, who stayed in August 2010
small room
room was very small - fell over bed when entering room.
up 4 flights of stairs - lift could only take 2 very skinny people at a time and as 4 people waiting we decided to go up the stairs - these were int he rpocess os being redecorated so rather messy and untidy.
Basic amenties - but tired and scruffy decor. Definitely over prived. Stayed in Paris a couple of months ago in a much nicer hotel for not much more money.
Quite hard to find, but once found - in a good location. Can walk to all the main sites.
Nice & quiet.
Was disappointed wiht the room as had checked out the photos for this hotel and read other reviews.
The breakfast room was really tiny - probabl;y only 6 tables int here. We didn't sample it.
On leaving, the maid was cleaning another room and this one looked nice, so made out stay even more disappointing. Wouldn't stay or recommend this hotel. Reviewed by anna w, who stayed in July 2010
